Job Description: This position includes support for all servers, storage, and networking equipment. The Senior Systems Engineer also performs capacity planning, explores new technologies, leads process improvement efforts, and provides new designs that increase our capacity, reliability, security and availability, while moving the organization into our technology future. The Senior Systems Engineer is expected to lead projects and take initiative to solve problems with little direction.


Primary point of contact and accountable individual for network infrastructure design, performance, monitoring and support
Design and document system infrastructure and procedures
Participate in capacity planning efforts
Communicate design options to the Infrastructure Architect
Work with project managers, department heads and team members to determine project approaches, parameters and priorities
Communicate plans, status, and issues to management
Lead the evaluation, selection and deployment of new technologies and tools
Work with colleagues to optimize overall system performance. This includes working with applications, network, storage, database and server technology
Provide support to internal and external clients, including participation in the 24x7 on-­call rotation
Assist in development of security policies and procedures regarding system and data access
Train and mentor other team members
Provide senior-­level expertise and consultation regarding system configuration and quality
Perform system audits, document findings, and publish recommendations
Keep abreast of technical developments to ensure the is able to take advantage of industry advances
Develop and foster strong working relationships with clients and staff
Skills and abilities

Cisco Certification Required
Experience with design, installation, and configuration of VMware ESX clusters
Detailed understanding of DRS, HA, Fault Tolerance, and Resource pools with real world experience implementing and scaling
Understanding of virtualized infrastructures in the multi-­?tenant environment
Enterprise SAN administration (Pure Storage, Netapp, EMC, etc.)
Experience with enterprise backup solutions (Commvault a plus)
Day to day experience with Windows Domain Controllers/Active Directory/SMTP/Web/DNS/DHCP services
Experience in both Microsoft and Linux OS environments
Experience and knowledge in network technologies:
Cisco networking experience required
Knowledge of security monitoring including Intrusion Detection
F5 load-­balancing experience a plus
Knowledge of automation/scripting (PowerShell a plus)
Puppet, vCenter, vCloud Director experience
Exposure to disaster recovery technologies/concepts (Veeam, SRM, CommVault, Zerto)
Expert level analytical abilities, diagnostic skills and technical aptitude
Intermediate level understanding of information security best practices and principles, including experience creating and maintaining system safeguards
Self-­Motivation and ability to research and present solutions to the team for review
Experience in 24x7 high availability production/sustaining processes, including “lights out” support and remote administration
Experience in managing equipment installs and availability in a Data Center environment
Excellent listening skills and a commitment to communicate clearly, completely, and in a timely manner
Exceptional skills in partnering with clients and staff and in developing and maintaining long term supportive relationships
Ability to assess the effectiveness of processes and procedures and lead improvement efforts include documenting and implementin
Ability to research complex issues while knowing when to ask for help
Education and experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
8+ years related experience, with at least 4 years’ experience in VMware ESX and Enterprise storage (VMware VCP preferred)
