Microsoft has announced security support for devices using Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 to be provided till July 2017. Some 190 devices coming from leading device manufacturers like HP, Dell and Lenovo will be covered under the new support policy published by Microsoft.
The reduced support of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 for all new PCs has been announced by Microsoft on Jan. 15, 2016. PCs covered by this policy include Skylake processors from the house of Intel (sixth generation). Support for such systems has been curbed by 30 months as the future generation of processors need an advanced Windows platform e.g. Windows 10.
Microsoft has even stated that the new generation of Skylake backed systems are exempted by their no-support policy. In comparison, all enlisted systems are meant to receive security updates along with fixing solutions till July 17, 2017.
