This Employment Eligibility Verification is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals working in US both for US citizens and noncitizens. Not only employees but also employers should also complete this form, with attestation of his or her employer authorization. The employer should scrutinize the form well to determine whether all the information provided is true or not.
The new I-9 form is released with the purpose of lessening the number of errors while filling up the form. It is not mandatory to fill the form online. You can also download the form and fill it by hand. The form should be signed by both employee and employer. The old form will be considered invalid after 21st January, 2017.
