Apple introduces its most popular-sized iPad at the pocket-friendly price ever, and a red iPhone 7, sales of which will contribute to the global fund to support HIV/AIDS prevention and research. The new devices are mainly renewed versions of existing models. Apple unveiled these devices through press releases on Tuesday, as it usually does for bigger product releases.

The new 9.7-inch iPad comes with a brighter Retina display and faster processor starting at US$329, a $70 price cut from a comparable 32-gigabyte model, the $399 iPad Air 2, first introduced in 2014. The special edition iPhone 7 (RED), available in both 128GB and 256GB configurations, is basically the same iPhone 7 but with a striking new red skin and an altruistic bent. The 7.9-inch (20cm) iPad Mini 4 also now comes with 128GB of storage replacing the 32 GB model starting at US$399, rather than US$499 before.

The iPad has struggled over the past few years against competition from various products, so reducing the price is the latest strategy by the company to grab the market. The new products will be available from March 24. Apple also has announced a new app called Clips that lets users combine video, photos and music to share with friends. It also said its student-coding app, Swift Playgrounds, will be available in more languages, including simplified Chinese.
